Understanding Service Status Indicators

Learn how to interpret the different status indicators we use to show service health and outages.

Status Types Explained

DownStatus.co uses a color-coded system to quickly communicate the current status of each service:

Operational

The service is functioning normally with no known issues.

Degraded Performance

The service is experiencing slowness or minor issues but is still accessible.

Potential Outage

We've detected a significant number of user reports indicating potential issues.

Major Outage

The service is experiencing a confirmed outage affecting a large number of users.

Maintenance

The service is undergoing scheduled maintenance and may be partially or fully unavailable.

Unknown

We don't have enough information to determine the current status of this service.

How We Determine Status

Service status is determined through multiple data sources:

  1. Automatic Monitoring: We regularly check the availability of service APIs and endpoints.
  2. User Reports: Reports submitted by users help us detect issues quickly, especially when they affect specific regions or features.
  3. Official Status Pages: We integrate with official service status pages when available.
  4. Social Media Analysis: We monitor social media for widespread reports of service issues.
Note: Status indicators update approximately every 5 minutes. Refresh the page to see the most current status.

Incident Timeline Status

For ongoing incidents, you'll see a timeline with status updates. Each update includes:

  • Timestamp: When the status update was posted
  • Status Indicator: The service status at that point in time
  • Description: Details about what's happening and any steps being taken

Incident timelines are particularly useful for tracking how an outage progresses from detection to resolution.

Status History

Each service page displays a status history showing:

  • Past 30 days uptime: Visual indication of service reliability
  • Recent incidents: Record of past outages and issues
  • Resolution time: How long it typically takes for issues to be resolved

This historical data helps you understand the overall reliability of a service over time.
